Abukuma-do, a cave in Fukushima
The caves and grottos are wonderful sites and when one goes into them understand why for many ancient peoples these places could be entrances to other worlds. I have not claustrophobic and although I do not like bugs and I love seeing pictures of ancient stalagmites stalactites. And Japan is of these places it is a mountainous country with volcanoes everywhere.

One of the most popular cave is the Cave Abukuma-do, located in Fukushima prefecture. While taking millennia was not discovered until 1969. It is located northeast of the city of Tamura and since 1971 is a Natural Heritage.

One of the strangest things in this cave is that it has a strange and unique cave formations composed of very thin layers of mineral calcite projecting from the roof and walls forming a kind of honeycomb. Impress.

Abukuma-do Cave has a path 600 meters long and a ride that travels 120 meters in total. Over here are the stalagmites and stalactites and it is estimated that each took at least 80 million years to form. In here the temperature is 15 ยบ C and humidity is very high, is around 90%.

As in all such caves in the rock formations attract attention and are christened with names that recall other similar forms. Herein then is the Christmas tree and Silver Frost.

The first is a huge icicle and the second is a column that is formed when the roof and floor meet. They are subject to all the tourist photos and it is estimated that the Christmas tree with two meters high is the highest of the stalagmite in the world.
