
Sapporo is the capital of the northern island of Japan, Hokkaido. There are nearly 2 million inhabitants and is the center of the island protractors (from here you can go to any other people of Hokkaid? and, in fact, go through it if you want to view any part of the island).
Sapporo’s name comes from the Ainu to the area, Sari-poru-betsu or “river moves along a plain full of reeds.”
The city boasts of being the birthplace of the famous Sapporo beer and for being the home of the Winter Olympics in 1972, and in fact the southern mountains are perfect for winter sports. Its design is mathematical, grid streets that provide guidance.
Since 1891 the city was made in Sapporo beer, so you should not miss the charming Sapporo Brewery, which dates from the late nineteenth century. It has a great botanical garden the same time. Read the rest of this entry »
