If you’re looking for something more traditional …
The Ryokan are traditional Japanese hotels which provides the customer with a traditional breakfast service, yukata (Japanese summer kimono) for the convenience of guests and of course those who sleep on futon. Some have Ryokan Onsen (hot spring) where you can relax.
Staying in a Ryokan is a unique experience and very satisfying. Although it is often somewhat expensive and hard to find without leaving the cities.
This accommodation is highly sought after by the Japanese on holiday, so in high season is practically impossible to find a room without a reservation. However, in cities such as Kyoto is possible to find a typical Ryokan without having to travel to rural areas.
